Sukamade Beach lies deep within Meru Betiri National Park, Banyuwangi–Jember, East Java. It is one of the most important sea turtle conservation sites in Indonesia. The area is home to several turtle species, such as the green turtle, hawksbill turtle, and olive ridley turtle.
The highlight of Sukamade is the night turtle tour, where visitors can witness giant turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. Early in the morning, visitors can also join the heartwarming activity of releasing baby turtles (hatchlings) into the ocean.
Reaching Sukamade itself is an adventure – the route takes you across rivers, plantations, and tropical rainforest. Simple guesthouses are available, making it a true eco-tourism experience away from modern life.
Mount Ijen, located in Banyuwangi, is one of the most famous volcanoes in Indonesia. It stands at 2,799 meters and is best known for two remarkable natural wonders:
